Such a Sad Time is a felt and wood installation sculpture by acclaimed contemporary artist, Lucy Sparrow.
For this piece, Sparrow has recreated a convenience store shelf entirely from felt, offering a modern take on pop art portrayals of consumer goods. The shelves of the cabinet are packed with familiar household essentials, including Heinz ketchup and Sun-Maid raisins.
The piece is from a limited edition of 50, signed by the artist. Each artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity and a signed copy of Felt World, Sparrow’s book.

About the artist
Contemporary British artist Lucy Sparrow works at the intersection of fine art and craft, incorporating textiles into her sculptural installations.
Known for creating familiar household objects from wool and felt, Sparrow has held exhibitions in site specific locations since her acclaimed 2014 installation ‘The Cornershop’, which saw the takeover of a derelict newsagents in East London, filled with her fabric-sculptures. Subsequent shows include 2015’s ‘Madame Roxy’s Erotic Emporium’, housed in a Soho sex shop, and 2019’s ‘Sixth Avenue Delicatessen’ in New York.
Sparrow has been involved in notable group shows across the UK and was a contributor to the V&A’s 2013 travelling street art collection along with Banksy, Blek le Rat, and Pure Evil. Her first solo show at Hoxton Gallery, entitled ‘Imitation’, recreated iconic artworks form felt, including Damien Hirst’s shark in formaldehyde.
