Abeille V, Original

Elizabeth Waggett is a British contemporary artist who creates free-spirited depictions of animals, skulls, and personal trinkets. Her work explores the profound relationship between value and purpose in our consumer driven society.

This piece is from Waggett’s Abeille Series, which was created especially for Enter Gallery’s 2022 Pop-Up at the Truman Brewery in London. The series celebrates the beauty of the bee – the emblem of Waggett’s hometown of Manchester.

“Bees mean something to everyone, and I want these artworks to urge the observer to think about what we place value on. The precious metals I’ve included in these pieces have been chosen to highlight the preciousness of these incredible creatures.”

This hand-finished original piece is created with oil and silver leaf on birch panel, and comes signed by the artist. Please note that silver changes colour over time, so the appearance of your piece is likely to change.

    About the artist
    +

Elizabeth Waggett’s free-spirited portrayals of animals, skulls, and personal trinkets explore the profound relationship between value and purpose in consumer driven society.

Employing skilled, fine art techniques, Waggett draws her subjects in stripped-back monochrome, adding streaks of shimmering, gold leaf. In the contrast between opulence and simplicity, Waggett’s work represents the inner struggle to balance materialism and meaning, turning each piece into a social commentary that challenges the viewer to confront the impact of mining the world for precious natural resources.

Waggett’s drawings and editions have been exhibited around the world. She has had solo shows in NYC, LA, Abu Dhabi, and Manchester, and has presented her work at art fairs in Basel, Miami, New York, London, Hong Kong, Zurich, Brussels, Houston, and Paris. She was commissioned by HRH The Prince of Wales in collaboration with the Prince’s Trust 50th Anniversary and has worked for luxury brands including Saks, Soho House, and SLS Hotels. She holds an honours degree in Fashion and a postgraduate in Design from the University of Manchester.
