Abstract meets realism in Dark Grey Garden, a limited edition print from one of the pioneers of British conceptual art in the 1960s, Bruce McLean. Grey on grey on grey, lifted with highlights of sunshine-yellow and sky-blue, pale rose-pink and grass-green. Texture is key here: this is all about the build up of brushstrokes and layers of thick pigment, creating an eye-catching visual surface. A base of earthy brown and a few lines of paint that seem to sway like stalks in the wind give the gentle impression of a garden, thick with flora and foliage, in this abstract composition.
Hand-signed by McLean himself, Dark Grey Garden is from a limited edition of just 75: a highly collectable silkscreen from one of the leading voices in modern and contemporary British art.

About the artist
A leading figure in the development of 1960s Conceptual Art, Bruce McLean is regarded as one of the major players in contemporary British art. Rebellious and pioneering, McLean helped break down the rigid formalism of visual art, loosening traditional forms into abstraction and paving the way for Pop aesthetics.
McLean began his career making sculptures from rubbish and debris, abandoning conventional art to develop a satirical commentary that mocked the pomposity of the art world and its long-established forms.
He works across a range of media, including sculpture, film, photography, printmaking, drawing and live work, which continues to be exhibited in private and public collections around the world.
A custom frame is the perfect way to complement your beautiful limited edition artwork. Our custom framing is a bespoke handmade service.
