Grey Grow Green

Grey Grow Green is a signed, limited edition, hand-cut and painted silkscreen print by contemporary abstract artist Bruce McLean.

This work is part of the Shadow Series, a set of four prints including Tree Fern and Shadow, Yellow, Grey Grow Green, Green Grey Violet Shadow and Blue Grey Blind. All four works feature bold bright shapes and thick hatchings of abstract line in black and grey, in a striking composition of contrasting colour and shadow.

“All my prints are influenced by our garden in Spain called ‘Son Caragol’ which means ‘Snail’. The latest prints are directly related to paintings I made 10 years ago. I’m interested in the dark shadows and how points of light appear as the sun moves around and flickers, I’m attempting to create beautiful, lush, vibrant works as a direct response to this lush, flickering environment.” – McLean, 2018

Provocative and probing, Bruce McLean is known for creating art that playfully mocks the art world and challenges art traditions.

    About the artist
    +

A leading figure in the development of 1960s Conceptual Art, Bruce McLean is regarded as one of the major players in contemporary British art. Rebellious and pioneering, McLean helped break down the rigid formalism of visual art, loosening traditional forms into abstraction and paving the way for Pop aesthetics.

McLean began his career making sculptures from rubbish and debris, abandoning conventional art to develop a satirical commentary that mocked the pomposity of the art world and its long-established forms.

He works across a range of media, including sculpture, film, photography, printmaking, drawing and live work, which continues to be exhibited in private and public collections around the world.
