Juno

Made from images from her new book, 'Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage' Maria Rivans' 'Juno' print features Elizabeth Taylor with the trademark Rivans headdress of collage.

Choosing the title ‘Juno’ because it names the Queen of Goddesses, this piece evokes the ideas of vitality, energy and eternal youthfulness. From the blossoming flowers, to the frozen-in-time bloom of the young Elizabeth Taylor. Note the use of bird feathers which feature heavily in Egyptian iconography, in a nod to Taylor’s most fabulous movie role, 'Cleopatra'.

    About the artist
    +

Taking a unique approach to collaging, Maria Rivans is known for her layered imagery of vintage Hollywood. From starlets to Sci-Fi, B-movies to TV trash, Rivans’ passion for bygone cinema is palpable, infusing every piece with a life of its own.

Merging Pop Art with Surrealism, her work overflows with elements – a rich fusion of the organic and artificial, the urban and the natural, the human and the animal. Finely tuned to colour and compositional harmony, Rivans uses her distinctive approach to vintage adding a touch of humour, optimism, and inspiration.

In 2017 and 2018, her work featured in The Times newspaper and, in 2018, her Film Still ‘Understanding Nothing’ was selected for the Royal Academy’s 250th Summer Exhibition.
