Kate Moss First Sitting, Untitled Five

David Ross is the photographer behind the first-known modelling photographs of iconic supermodel, Kate Moss.

This piece is from a collection taken of Kate when she was just 14, and was sent to Ross by Storm Model Management to get her first headshots.

Speaking of the impression the supermodel made, even back then, Ross reveals:

"She was against the grain of any other look of the time. A cool kid and refreshing in that sense. She just had an attitude and an expression that kind of came easy. She didn't need to really do anything, and that's the secret - modelling is an art form and having a natural sense of how much to do and how little to do is a skill that you either have or you don't.'

This hand-printed silver gelatin photograph is from a limited edition of 10, signed and numbered by David Ross.

    Your Framing Options at entergallery.com

Box framing is provided with all our online framing, creating a distance between the glass and your artwork, so no risk of ink transfer to the pane. it's the perfect, gallery grade choice for limited edition prints or original artworks.

Shadow float mounting is an option at our website, to give the appearance of an artwork floating within the frame. The mount – an archival foam core – creates depth too, by casting a shadow beneath the artwork. We highly recommend using a float mount when framing artwork with deckled (hand-torn) edges.

    About the artist
    +

David Ross is a photographer who is best-known for capturing the first professional modelling shoot of supermodel, Kate Moss.

His photos of Moss were taken at the very start of her career, when at just 14 years of age, she was sent to Ross by model agent, Sarah Doukas of Storm Model Management. The agency went on to launch the careers of Cara Delevingne, Sophie Dahl and Jourdann Dunn.

25 years later in 2014, Ross exhibited his photos of Moss at the Lawrence Alkin Gallery in London. Commenting on his time with the supermodel he stated: ‘I don’t even think she knew what she was doing. I got the feeling it was effortless for her. As a model you have to know how to turn it on without really turning it on, and that’s what she had and that’s what I saw from the very beginning.’
