Striving For Perspective - Obsidian

Striving for Perspective - Obsidian is an archival inkjet print by acclaimed contemporary street artist Eelus. The piece is screen printed with a black glitter layer and hand-finished with embellishment.

Striving for Perspective - Obsidian depicts a tiny figure in silhouette, gazing up at an impressive set of black and white stairs. The title introduces a play on words: the little figure strives for perspective as they look at the long stairway of life, while the print itself plays with perspective, creating an image of stairs from nothing but the arrangement of monochrome lines. This piece was created by Eelus for the Context Art Fair in 2019, which ran concurrently with Art Basel Miami.

From a very limited edition of just 15, each one hand-singed and numbered by the artist, Striving For Perspective - Obsidian is blink-and-you’ll-miss-it material —this really is the high-end contemporary print collector’s dream come true.

    About the artist
    +

Lee Pennington's art career began in the north of England in the late 80’s, selling hand-drawn Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles posters to his friends in the school playground.

After a move to London in the early 00’s, Lee's eyes were opened to the emerging world of street art, and he began to experiment with his own stencil based works under the moniker of Eelus.

It’s after Banksy encountered the work that everything changed for Lee. His debut print edition through the legendary 'Pictures on Walls' sold out in record time, securing his place as a favourite amongst collectors.

Eelus has now painted and exhibited worldwide alongside key figures within the movement. The desirability of his work evident in the success of his solo exhibitions and sell-out print editions.

He applies his playful and provocative visual language to paintings, prints, murals, sculpture and installations, the work often characterized by stark monochromatic figures in a joyous display of colour, examining the entanglement and necessity of light and dark whilst celebrating the colourful magic of the human spirit.

He currently lives beside the sea in Brighton, UK, with his partner, their daughter, two cats and Arty the dog.
