Wake From Death, Return To Life

Contemporary artist Copyright fuses street art with fine art to explore representations of beauty in the modern world. His stylised aesthetic incorporates stencils, tattoo motifs, and graffiti tags, to expose the contradictions of idealism fed by the fashion industry, film, and contemporary popular culture. Wake From Death, Return To Life looks back to traditional models of feminine beauty in the form of the Japanese Geisha. In crimson kimono, the painted muse casts down her painted eyes, to gaze on the fragile butterfly that hovers between her open palms. As monochrome slides into colour, and sharp stencil give way to mists of spray paint, Copyrights print artfully explores the contrasts that surround contemporary standards of beauty.

    About the artist
    +

Contemporary artist Copyright fuses street art with fine art to create a stylised aesthetic that explores representations of beauty in the modern world.

Inspired by William Shakespeare, the Pre-Raphaelites, and Alfred Hitchcock, Copyright both follows and subverts these diverse influences to expose the contradictions of idealism and unattainable standards of beauty, fed by the fashion industry, film, music and contemporary popular culture.

Pink roses, butterflies, and beautiful women are the mainstays of Copyright’s work. These recurring tropes appear amongst tattoo motifs and graffiti tags to create a unique and distinctive style that has earned Copyright a loyal following of street art lovers, as well as celebrity art collectors including The Prodigy frontman, Liam Howlett.
