Euan Roberts is a London-based artist whose work is fascinated by the unspectacular. His playful and child-like paintings depict the people, places and objects that are usually overlooked, to reflect on the unrefined nature of human life. By pulling the focus away from the finished ‘product’, Roberts’ work becomes a vehicle for distilling the artist’s thought on the world he experiences around him.
The recurring use of the phrase ‘I’m OK’ in Roberts’ artwork creates a bridge of relatability between viewer and artist, and has helped raise awareness for mental health issues by encouraging people to speak up when things are not ‘OK’. At times, Roberts’ subjects are unsettling or bleak, but his visual language always remains upbeat, optimistic and inspirational.
