Alison Lapper is a prominent artist, television presenter and speaker known for giving talks about her life living and creating art with a condition known as phocomelia.
Lapper studied Fine Art at the University of Brighton, graduating in 1993 with First Class honours. She received an Honorary Doctorate from the university in 2014. Lapper is also a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) and in 2003, she was awarded an MBE for her services to art.
Over the course of her career, Lapper has won many awards, including a World Achievement Award from the Women’s World Awards (2005), the Outsider Charity Award (2006), a Life Award (2007) and Look! World Artist Award (2014).
Lapper has presented several TV shows for Sky Arts, and in 2024 her documentary, In My Own Words was broadcast on the BBC. In 2019, Lapper established The Drug of Art – a charity that introduces young people to art as an alternative form of mental health support.
