Favouring the hand-made over the high-tech, Joe Webb goes back to tactility in the creation of his retro collages. Sourcing vintage magazines from second-hand stores, Webb reworks original imagery, using simple and concise edits to build new visual narratives.
Surreal and sentimental, his work explores profoundly human themes of love, longing, war and inequality. With a penchant for the 1960s Space Age, much of Webb’s work depicts expansive galactic vistas, subtly subverted to invite the viewer to question their place in the universe. Environmentally conscious, Webb’s work is more than just a visual tour-de-force: this is art with something to say.
