Dennis Morris’s love of photography began at eight years old when he was dubbed ‘Mad Dennis’, around his East End neighbourhood, due to his preference for photography over football.
After one of his snaps was published on the front page of the Daily Mirror when he was just 11, Morris set his sights on music photography. His career took off after skipping school to wait for Bob Marley to arrive at soundcheck at the Speak Easy Club in London. The reggae legend invited him on tour and the resulting photographs of Marley and The Wailers appeared on the cover of Time Out and Melody Maker before Morris had even turned 17.
Morris’s work with Marley caught the eye of Johnny Rotten, and soon he was on the road with the Sex Pistols. Since then he’s continued to photograph the biggest names in music, including Oasis, Bush and The Prodigy, and his work has appeared everywhere from Rolling Stone and The Sunday Times to Time Magazine.
