Acclaimed London-based artist Yinka Illori is known for creating artworks that blend his own Nigerian heritage with contemporary British design.
Primarily a furniture designer, Illori specialises in up-cycling vintage pieces. Recently, the artist established the ‘Restoration Station’, directly collaborating with recovering addicts in workshop settings to up-cycle donated furniture. Through this artistic enterprise, Illori encouraged participants to realise their creative potential, while also raising funds for charity through the auctioning of the pieces produced.
In his move into print work, Illori has continued to be inspired by the African fabrics of his childhood, capturing the colourful geometric lines that feature in traditional Nigerian patterns with a nod to British 1980s nostalgia.
