It may be February, but with London Fashion Week just two weeks away, we’re feeling fabulous! In honour of the classiest event on the British fashion calendar, this month we’re running an exclusive competition for all you fashionistas out there – the chance to win Prada Marfa, an unframed limited edition giclée print by Mexican contemporary artist and photographer, Paul Fuentes.
The story behind the image
Come March, this stylish piece could be hanging above your mantlepiece, or in your walk-in closet, if you’ve got that kind of space! In the piece from Fuentes’ Travel Collection, the artist captures the Prada Marfa art installation, located in the middle of nowhere on a lonely west Texas highway.
The replica of the Prada store (stocked with real Prada items) is an art installation dreamt up over 15 years ago by Scandinavian artists, Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset. The piece was created as a response to designer boutiques pricing art dealers out of New Yorks SoHo.
The pair assumed the sculptural piece would quietly erode into the landscape – instead it became a cultural phenomenon, attracting people from far and wide, and making appearances everywhere from The Simpsons, to Beyoncé’s Instagram feed.
Pastel prints
Paul Fuentes captures Prada Marfa in the same candy floss shades which characterise his work. Across his oeuvre, Fuentes transports us to dreamy desert locations oozing mid-century nostalgia with pieces that encourage us to stop and appreciate the everyday beauty that surrounds us.
Worth £395, Prada Marfa is a giclée print from a limited edition of 80, signed and numbered by Paul Fuentes.
The competition runs from Tuesday 1st until Monday 28th February. The winner will be drawn on Tuesday 1st March and Enter Gallery will be in touch to notify you of your victory.
