This September, Enter Gallery is giving you the chance to win Tabut – a limited edition art print by French artist, Mateo Humano.
Through his street art, Mateo has amassed an enormous international following and his art has been exhibited in galleries across the globe. Read on to discover more about this exciting artist, and why you’ll want to be in with a chance of winning one of his artworks this September…
Introducing Mateo Humano
Mateo Humano is a Montreal-based artist, known for Baroque street art, and beautiful oriental carpet paintings, in which he uses the patterns of the carpets to highlight the features of his subjects.
His work is an act of defiance. By taking carpets that are typically woven by women and walked upon and transforming them into works of art – Mateo celebrates the strength and complexity of women.
If you look a little closer, you’ll see how Mateo adorns his subject’s features with motifs, which calls upon us to question our consciousness and cultural identity in a system that pushes for uniformity at all costs.
Mateo explains: "I try to represent the essence and soul of the feminine. She is nobody and at the same time everybody.”
Ink and Paper at Enter Gallery
The Enter Gallery team were blown away by Mateo’s art when they first encountered it at Miami Art Week in 2019, and our buyers were eager to bring Mateo to the UK to host his first solo show on British shores.
Mateo’s show – Ink and Paper - later took place at Enter Gallery in April 2022, and was an enormous success.
If you’d like to experience Mateo’s mesmerising work with your own eyes, you’re in luck! Enter Gallery will be exhibiting his work in London between 12-16th October at the Saatchi Gallery for Start Art Fair. Or, if you’re based in the north of England, we’ll also be showing Mateo’s work at Manchester Art Fair from 4th-6th November.
How to enter?
The competition runs from Thursday 1st September until Thursday 29th September 2022. The winner will be announced on Friday 30th September.
