Kids Clubs, talks, music gigs, the Brighton gallery has it all, we look back at how we have kept our guests entertained in our gallery space.
Always at the cutting-edge of the contemporary art world, the gallery are proud to offer a range of exciting events and unique experiences within our newly expanded gallery in the heart of Brighton’s North Laine. We have been reflecting on a few recent favourites…
Private Views
A Private View offers the chance to see the latest releases from our leading artists with a glass of bubbly in hand and expert advice from our gallery team. Recent events have included exclusive originals and print releases from Aroe, Dan Hillier, Elizabeth Waggett, Sara Pope, Ryan Callanan, Copyright and Bonnie and Clyde. Check out our eventbrite page for upcoming events.
We have also exhibited a selection of never-seen-before, rare prints belonging to the gallery's owner, Lawrence, in a special showcase that has documented the gallery’s long-standing roots at the forefront of the art scene and how contemporary art has evolved over the last 25 years.
Then there was the time Fatboy Slim did a gig in the gallery to mark our 25th Birthday
Sources of Pop Art
Our ‘Sources of Pop’ Rare Print Showcase welcomed the first Andy Warhol print to the gallery in an exciting curation of Pop Art prints from legendary artists who were instrumental in the Pop Art movement.
Pop Art forms the basis of most of the work we have in our gallery and encompasses the ethos of the gallery that art is for everyone and doesn’t have to be ‘high brow’ or hidden in meaning for it to be considered a work of art. The event was a celebration of the Pop Art movement and the artists that have led the way for the gallery such as Peter Blake, Andy Warhol and Robert Indiana.
This year's Art Yard Sale saw huge crowds once again meet their favourite contemporary artists at Jubilee Square, Brighton as part of our unique Art Yard Sale. This growing art event gives everyone the chance to buy (and own) original, affordable limited-edition artworks direct from the artists who create them. Our next Art Yard Sale is set to be bigger and better than ever as we recruit new up and coming artists throughout the year to take part.
Kids Club
A chance for kids to get creative with one of our artists every 3rd Saturday of the month, our Kids Club has been hosted by the likes of Eddy Bennett, Sara Pope, Lucy Bryant, Sarah Arnett, Dave Towers, Jana Nicole and Rebecca Strickson and continues to be an unmissable event for families in Brighton. Spaces fill up quickly so make sure you follow the updates from our eventbrite page.
Art Related Noise
Specialising in all things arty and interesting, our regular podcast, ‘Art Related Noise’ provides a fascinating insight into our artists and the art world with some of the most genuine and unique artist interviews from across the UK.
We recently recorded a panel talk with Dan Doherty (one half of Art + Believe) and Charlie Edwards (aka Pure Evil) at the Artist Residence Hotel in Brighton for a discussion on Street Art Vs Fine Art. Hosted by Stuart from the award-winning art blog, Inspiring City.
Download this panel talk as well as interviews with artists such as Joe Webb, Ben Eine and Euan Roberts on Podbean
Art as Resistance!
Inspired by the creative protesting style of Extinction Rebellion, we hosted ‘Art as Resistance’ – a talk with esteemed lecturer at the University of Brighton, Katy Beinart, looking back at the role of art within protest groups throughout history to the present day. Guest were then given the chance to make their own printed banners and T-shirts with Extinction Rebellion.
We hope this will be the first talk of many held at our gallery as we look to become a source of art knowledge and a base for community projects.
We’re so grateful to be able to share all these special events with the art lovers out there! A huge thank you to everyone that attended and helped make each event such a success and we look forward to seeing you at plenty more of the gallery’s unique and varied events in the near future!
