Richard Berner’s Champs take over Brighton!

To celebrate the launch of his solo show at Enter Gallery, Richard Berner has mobilised his team of Champs, sending them out into Brighton’s North Laines to spread the word about You Can Be Anything (*Or Nothing).

Berner’s eagerly-awaited Brighton debut dives into the ambiguity of art, offering his signature wry take on its capacity to be deeply profound to one person, and completely meaningless to the next.

Take a stroll around our neighbourhood and you’ll spot Berner’s champs adorning the walls of some of Brighton’s independent businesses. In today’s blog, we’re revealing where they’re hanging out so you can go and see them for yourself…

Cheeky Champs

For those just diving in to the curious world of Berner’s art, you should know that each of his meticulously-intricate creations are crafted from a cast of tiny figures that he calls his ‘champs.’

His lovably-forlorn figures, which have been likened to everything from lost souls to lemmings, have captured the hearts of art lovers and collectors around the world with their antics…and now they’re out and about enjoying the sights of Brighton, shopping for vinyl, buying guitars, and even enjoying a swift pint down the Prince Albert.

You’ll find Berner’s Champs pasted onto the walls of Gak Music Emporium, Brighton Your Spirit, Resident Records, Blend and Brew, Gresham Blake, Tribeca and the Prince Albert pub.

We chatted to Laura Starbuck, the owner of Tribeca on Bond Street, who told us:

“We’re delighted to have a little champ outside Tribeca and thrilled to be involved with the Champ Takeover! Enter Gallery’s trail of champs is such a fun and quirky way to celebrate the artistic spirit of the North Laines, while spreading the word about Richard Berner’s art and upcoming show.”

You Can Be Anything (*Or Nothing) will be on display at Enter Gallery on Bond Street until Friday December 8th. The show features a new collection of original artworks, limited edition prints, and for the first time ever – sculptures.
