Shadow float mounting is an option at our website, to give the appearance of an artwork floating within the frame. About the artist
Born in 1951, Richard Spare is a British artist and master printmaker whose work reflects a vibrant celebration of travel, nature, and everyday life. Drawing inspiration from his journeys—particularly to India and Nepal—as well as from domestic objects and floral arrangements, Richard’s art captures the beauty of the ordinary with a joyful and colourful flair.
A specialist in drypoint etching, Richard achieves a distinctive velvety texture in his prints, often complemented by rich, vivid colours inspired by his travels. His compositions range from serene still lifes to lively botanical studies, many of which have been sketched during holidays in Brittany and Devon, where resourceful arrangements using water bottles or pesto jars serve as impromptu vases.
Richard has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, with notable appearances including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. As an experienced printmaker, he has also editioned works for some of the UK’s most celebrated contemporary artists, including David Hockney and Howard Hodgkin. While his collaborative work has garnered acclaim, Richard continues to devote himself fully to his own creative practice, producing work that is both technically accomplished and deeply personal.
