Hooly Biography

Hooly is a Japanese contemporary artist hailing from Osaka – a city renowned for its rich artistic culture. After completing his studies at the prestigious Osaka College of Art, Hooly developed his current artistic style, which consists of ultra-flat, minimalist portraits, combining modernity with a fashion-forward approach.

In his popular series, Hooly depicts young women standing in the same upright position. In each portrait, Hooly leaves his subjects’ facial expression the same but edits the background and clothing styles in a style reminiscent of action figures.

Each artwork is intended as an exploration of personality, self-expression and the multitudes we conceal beneath our facial expressions.
