Kawakami Yoshiro Biography

Kawakami Yoshiro is a prominent Japanese artist and animator who mastered his craft studying painting at Tokyo Zokei University, before specialising in animation at Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Film and New Media.

Yoshiro has captured the imaginations of collectors around the world with his artworks depicting blank-eyed subjects against vivid ‘emotional canvasses’.

By giving his subjects the same passive facial expression but changing the backdrop, Yoshiro encourages the viewer to look beyond physical features to sense the emotion of the piece.
