Since his career began in the 1950s, Sir Peter Blake has been prolific, creating paintings, collage, typography and more inspired by his fascination with popular culture. Blake’s impact as the face of contemporary art is so significant, he is now known as the ‘Godfather of Pop Art.’
This piece is from Sir Peter Blake’s 2010, I Love You Set, in which he uses mismatched collaged letters to spell out the sweetest sentiment there is.
This use of letters from different sources is a motif seen across Blake’s oeuvre, and reflects his love of creating collages from his extensive collection of found ephemera.
