Craigie's Canary

Since his career began in the 1950s, Sir Peter Blake has been prolific, creating paintings, collage, typography and more inspired by his fascination with popular culture. Blake’s impact on the face of contemporary art is so significant, he is now known as the ‘Godfather of Pop Art.’

This minimalist hand-painted etching, with just a splash of vibrant colour, is Blake's homage to the life and work of his dear friend, British artist, Craigie Aitchison.

Aitchison kept canaries, and would reportedly let them fly around his studio as he worked. The colourful bird is a symbol of innocence, joy and illumination.

This etching with hand-coloured chine colle is from a limited edition of 50, signed and numbered by the artist.
