The work of British photographic artist Mark Vessey is inspired by collections of everyday objects.
Driven by his own vintage magazine collection, Vessey photographs neatly arranged stacks of journals, LPs and even vodka bottles. Taken out of context, these collections assume new meanings in Vessey’s work, becoming single objects of aesthetic contemplation, rather than a series of separate items.
Vessey explains: “My work is about trying to establish a sense of order. There is comfort in collecting things, studying things that people take for granted, grouping every day objects into such a way that they become something special, seeing how they fit together to become a thing of great beauty.”
Vessey has collaborated with Brighton-based DJ, Norman Cook (aka Fatboy Slim), immortalising his record collection through his distinctive photographic approach.
