Balaclava Ballerina, White And Gold
Balaclava Ballerina, White Gold is a signed limited edition sculpture created using alloy and spray paint. Each sculpture comes presented in a black case with a piece of music on a memory card.
The artist created only ten of these pieces naming each Ballerina after a different star.
Each white Ballerina has its own song made for that sculpture, making each piece wholly unique.
Please Note: Each sculpture has been hand finished and will vary slightly.
The inspiration behind the ballerinas is based on a female superhero the artist wanted to create based on a a news event during the riots of 2020 – a black woman was standing there with police surrounding her.
"Even though they looked really fierce with their batons like they were going to attack her, she wasn’t going to do anything. The balaclava ballerina is shooting rose petals out of the guns and spreading love over the policeman.
The ballerina is also taking something quite gentle and putting something dangerous in her hands, but in my head the guns aren’t threatening - they’re spreading love. Like anything in my work the cats, the grenades, the ballerinas – they’re all about spreading love" Maxim

About the artist
One third of British band The Prodigy, Maxim is known for a fierce style of art that explores the darker side of humanity.
Maxim turned to painting over 17 years ago after feeling inspired to fill his own home with unique artwork. Choosing to keep his career as a musician and artist separate, he began releasing his paintings under the moniker MM. He has since gone on to exhibit at several successful solo shows in London and L.A. and has become a highly sought after and respected visual artist.
“I wanted my art to be accepted in its own right and was worried about being criticized as a musician trying to be an artist. All of the work is just me; whether it’s art or music. In music you are always aiming for perfection, you’re never 100% happy. Art is much more liberating than that; even mistakes can be beautiful.”
Working in a range of mixed media from original paintings and print work to sculpture, Maxim often incorporates found objects such as bullets, blades and pills to give the artwork an edge that is distinctly Maxim.
