This piece is from Peter Blake's Found Art series and is inspired by one of the earliest tenets of Pop Art, the idea that even the most basic everyday object can be transformed into fine art. Rather than opting to depict major commercial brands like Warhol, Blake uses found objects that most would cast aside.
In this series, Blake has used digital technology to enlarge the objects that are the focus of the piece, encouraging us to consider them in a different light. In Found Art: Pearl Buttons Blake combines the domestic with the elegant simplicity of Japanese design, and reminds us of a bygone era where even the most humble of products were produced and presented with great care.
