Appropriated Alphabets 6
Since his career began in the 1950s, Sir Peter Blake has been prolific, creating paintings, collage, typography and more inspired by his fascination with popular culture. Blake’s impact on the face of contemporary art is so significant, he is now known as the ‘Godfather of Pop Art.’
This piece is from Blake's 2013 Appropriated Alphabet series, in which he presents the alphabet in various guises using found ephemera from his extensive personal collection.
Blake's interest in the alphabet is linked to the exploration of childhood innocence and nostalgia that permeates his oeuvre.
