artrepublic customer makes £102,250 profit today at Sotheby's

Press Release

15th October 2007

One lucky art buyer came up trumps today as he sold his Banksy print for £102,500 at auction house giant Sotheby's Contemporary Art Auction in London.

Lot 207 ‘Kids on Guns’ had a list price of £20k - £30k – far more than its original selling price of £250 when it was bought from artrepublic – the Brighton limited editions gallery – in May 2004 as part of their Pop show.

Little did anyone realise that wise investing just three years ago from the Brighton gallery would see such an amazing windfall today. artrepublic were listed in the auction house’s notes as providing the provenance for ‘Kids on Guns’ – a 50.5 x 50.5cm acrylic and spray-paint on canvas piece.

Lawrence Alkin, CEO of artrepublic comments, “It just shows you what kind of money you can make from investing in contemporary art. Back in 2004 we loved Banksy’s work but practically had to force it on our customers. You can always rely on us for good investment advice.”

This Bristol-born graffiti artist’s star is staying on the up and up (and up).
