Last Sunday, we welcomed visitors to The Globe at Projects Brighton for Matter & Meaning, an intimate daytime event with British mixed media artist Emma de Polnay.

The event recreated Emma’s studio within the space, offering guests the rare chance to see her at work, view a selection of her richly textured originals, and enjoy tea, cake, and conversation in a calm, seaside-inspired setting.
A Gentle Pace, Meaningful Connections
The atmosphere throughout the day was steady and relaxed, allowing for deeper conversations between Emma, our team, and visitors. Guests were able to slow down and really immerse themselves in Emma’s process and the stories behind her work.
Emma’s Practice in Focus
In the run-up to the event, we shared reels capturing Emma’s creative ritual of collecting found fragments along the Brighton shoreline — objects that she transforms into layered compositions exploring themes of dance, flight, love, and resilience. At Matter & Meaning, projections of this process ran alongside her live demonstrations, offering a full picture of how matter becomes meaning in her art.
Inspiring Responses
The response from visitors was incredibly positive. Many commented on how refreshing it was to step into such an intimate setting and experience an artist’s practice up close. Several collectors felt particularly connected to Emma’s work and to the direction of our new programme of immersive events, which invite people to engage more deeply with the artists we represent.
Looking Ahead
We’d like to thank everyone who joined us, shared their feedback, and spent part of their Sunday with us. Most of all, we thank Emma for opening up her practice and offering such a generous insight into her world.
We look forward to curating more events like this in the future. In the meantime, you can explore Emma de Polnay’s collection online now
