Pritt Sticks at the ready, a group of art lovers arrived at Enter Gallery on Thursday evening to try their hand at the art of collage.
Offering expert knowledge on the night was Maria Rivans – a Brighton-based artist with an exceptional eye for colour and compositional harmony, known for richly-collaged artworks of otherworldly panoramas and Hollywood starlets.

In today’s blog, we’re providing some highlights from the lovely evening, and offering a peek at some of the creations made…
Cut and Paste
On the night, each of the attendees was tasked with crafting their own collage from elements included in Maria’s fantastic book – Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage.
Published in 2020, the book is ideal for anyone who has always fancied dabbling in the art of collage.
Juno by Maria Rivans was created entirely from elements found in her book, Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage.
With a selection of backgrounds and over 1500 images to choose from, ranging from skyscrapers and spaceships, to mushrooms and men in dubious pants, this book is a brilliant source of inspiration, and a fun opportunity to let your creativity run free.
Hot Tips
Encouraged to go wild, the attendees chose the elements they wanted to collage and then got to work composing their artworks. Maria was on hand to offer guidance on how to layer imagery, balance the collages and add perspective to the works.
While crafting, attendees enjoyed the opportunity to chat to Maria about her own artistic practices and approaches to collage. We learnt about the first collage Maria made and how her artworks often take months to create, with every element carefully considered.
The evening was a huge success, with every attendee taking home their own work of art, and a copy of the book so they can continue on their collage journey.
