Meet the Artist

Elizabeth Waggett is one of Enter Gallery’s most beloved and collected artists. Having worked together for many years, it has been a joy to watching her talent evolve and to see her monochrome prints connect with so many people around the world.

Waggett’s elegant artworks depict intricately rendered animals, skulls, and personal items. Each photorealistic image is juxtaposed with shimmering precious metals in an exploration of where we place value in our consumer-driven society.

We’re delighted to be presenting this opportunity for fans and collectors of Waggett’s work to come together to hear more about her artistic journey.

On the night, we’ll be diving into Waggett’s inspirational career, considering her upbringing and decision to take the risk in pursuing her artistic calling. Waggett will be also discussing the challenges of the life of an artist, providing invaluable insight for those hoping to carve a similar path.

Lightness After Dark

In June 2024, Waggett spoke to the Daily Mail, revealing for the first time the serious injury she experienced while giving birth to her daughter in 2021. This injury left the artist unable to walk, and living with the idea that she may never regain the use of her legs.

Fortunately, through dogged determination and a little bit of luck, Waggett is now walking. She chose to speak to the press to raise awareness of the prevalence of life-changing injuries that can happen during childbirth, and to fight for essential change in how women are cared for during this vulnerable time.

Understandably, this healing journey has inspired many of Waggett’s artworks, and now her artistic focus is set on projects that explore ‘lightness after dark’ as a metaphor for her traumatic experience.

One example is the artwork, I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar, which will be on display on the night. The rousing piece is a beautiful example of the message of feminine strength that Waggett infuses into each carefully-considered piece.

Resounding Resilience

Also on display on the night will be Waggett’s latest trio of lobsters, all of which are unique works. Magnificent Standards I, II and III are presented against backgrounds of 23ct goldoxidised silver and silver.

These lobsters are an opportunity to own an artwork that truly defines Elizabeth Waggett. Over the years, she has depicted many lobsters, drawn to them for their physical shape and what the creature represents. Waggett reveals:

"When I first started to create my lobster drawings, I wanted to find a way to celebrate the beauty of the creature, the love we hold for it and also the way in which we are conflicted in this, using the animal world for personal gain. To talk about the way in which we disregard our earth and its creatures to satisfy our greed. Eventually, disregarding nature will come to haunt us. I also love the lines and composition of the single lobster on the paper with its shine and complicated exoskeleton."

These lobsters are also personal to Waggett, as they are linked to her own artistic journey. Each lobster represents Waggett’s British roots and her experiences of moving to the USA.

From Collector to Friend

Bringing together collectors with the artists they love is one of our greatest joys at Enter Gallery. Art connect us, and there’s nothing like the feeling of immediate connection with an artwork that speaks to you. When you buy a piece of art, you become a part of an artist’s journey, and that relationship between artist and collector is something we just love to not only facilitate, but celebrate.

On the night, we’ll be diving into this special relationship between artist and collector. Waggett will be discussing her friendship with one of her collectors, Tim, and revealing how their relationship has resulted in the opportunity for collaboration and creativity at his artist residency in North Devon.

We hope you’ll join us on Thursday August 1st from 6:30pm - 8:30pm to meet Waggett and hear her in conversation. Book your tickets here to this exclusive event.
