Chrisie Nimenko hosts Kids Club

At the weekend, Enter Gallery hosted our monthly Kids Club – one of the most popular art events in Brighton for children. This month’s host was Chrisie Nimenko, an artist who crafts arresting mixed-media collages inspired by literature and the natural world.

The focus of the workshop was myth and legend, with Nimenko guiding the kids on a quest to create a mythical creature of their own. Here’s a glimpse at what our little heroes created…

The Stuff of Legend

Nimenko began the session by regaling the children with some popular tales featuring Greek Gods, including all time favourites, Zeus, Hermes and Medusa.

Next, she introduced the children to the techniques of contemporary artists, Mark Todd, Sara Fanelli and Tony Meeuswissen, to provide examples of how artists have interpreted these popular tales into fun and informative works of art.

Once the children had been inspired, they set out to make their own mythical creatures, combining collaged elements with their own drawings of monstrous tails, enormous wings, and imposing sets of horns.

As always, we were very impressed with what emerged from the imaginations of the children, and we think you’ll agree that their mythical creatures are fit for any storybook.
