This Easter, art takes to the streets in the most unexpected way. As part of The Big Egg Hunt, a city-wide art trail taking place across London until 27th April 2025.
Enter Gallery artist Dan Baldwin has created a one-of-a-kind sculpture titled 'Rebirth'.

The trail features over 100 uniquely designed, large-scale eggs by artists and designers such as Anya Hindmarch, Philip Colbert, and Fortnum & Mason. Scattered across iconic London landmarks like The British Museum, The Royal Albert Hall and Battersea Power Station, the egg hunt offers a free, fun and art-filled way to explore the city this spring.

Baldwin's egg, 'Rebirth', is a vibrant four-colour creation in pastel hues and the distinct composition seen in his printwork. Speaking of his concept, Baldwin explains: “I was torn between monochrome, then gold leaf, then candy land, but after some sketches I wanted to focus on a 4 colour approach.”
The egg as a symbol speaks deeply to Baldwin’s creative philosophy. Known for his 'psychological landscapes' and the use of contrasting motifs such as skulls and swallows, Baldwin weaves together themes of life, death, innocent, and renewal. His use of the egg motif as a symbol of rebirth is especially poignant, echoing his continued exploration of transformation and the duality and cycle or life.

The symbolism of the egg stretches across time and culture, representing new life, fertility and spiritual awakening. In Baldwin’s hands, this becomes not just an Easter celebration, but a deeper artistic reflection on growth and the power of reinvention.

We’re thrilled to see Dan Baldwin's work celebrated as part of such an engaging public art initiative. The Big Egg Hunt not only brings art into the streets but raises vital funds for Elephant Family's conservation work through a silent auction of the sculptures.
