Today is International Women’s Day - a day to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against bias and take action for equality.
One of the key aims of International Women’s Day is to celebrate the work of women creatives and to elevate visibility. For this reason, Enter Gallery has partnered with The Girls' Network to pair young girls from less-advantaged backgrounds with artist mentors.
The sky's the limit
The Girls' Network believe that no girl's future should be limited by their background, gender or parental income.
The organisation's mission is to empower girls by connecting them with a mentor and a network of professional women. Through these invaluable contacts, girls are educated about the working world, and inspired by the variety of opportunities available to them.

An Artistic Mentor
Jana Nicole is a mixed-media artist who specialises in collages rich in unexpected details that hide in plain sight.
She has recently completed The Girls' Network year-long mentoring programme, working with Ella, a student at Wilingdon Community School in Eastbourne, who Nicole describes as ‘full of enthusiasm’.
Ella is interested in pursuing a career in art and has a particular talent for capturing portraits.
Jana Nicole talks through the different elements of her Cirque Des Enfants prints.
From the studio to the gallery
Following a year of artistic mentoring, Jana Nicole wanted to show Ella the process of creating a print from start to finish.
This behind-the-scenes tour began in Nicole's studio, then to the printers, before popping in to Enter Gallery on Bond Street in Brighton to see the finished artwork adorning our walls.
We were delighted to welcome Ella and Jana Nicole into the gallery, and to provide some inspiration for where Ella’s creations could one day be displayed.
Ella marked Grayson Perry’s Animal Spirit as one of her favourite pieces in the gallery. Jana Nicole was on hand to tell her more about the work of the Turner Prize Winner.
