After graduating from Goldsmith’s School of Art, London in 1982, Julian Opie became part of the New British Sculpture movement alongside Anish Kapoor and Tony Cragg.
Opie’s distinctive depictions of figures, portraits, and landscapes blend Pop Art and Minimalism, using solid areas of flat colour with thick, black outlines for a highly stylized effect.
Over time he has expanded his practice to include painting, installation, and cover art for albums, including the infamous Blur: the best of 2000 album. The artist’s works forms collections around the globe including, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the National Portrait Gallery in London and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
