Nick Smith is a British artist known for pixelated artworks created using collaged paint swatches. Over the years, he has replicated everything from Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and Warhol’s portrait of Marilyn Monroe, to movie posters, still life works, and nudes.
To add a narrative layer to each work, Smith replaces the names of his paint swatches with evocative or humorous words relating to the piece. These words are designed to either celebrate a moment in film or art history, or are left open to interpretation in order to spark debate.
