Sarah Lucas Biography

Sarah Lucas emerged onto the art scene as part of the Young British Artists of the late eighties. Over the course of the following three decades, Lucas cemented her status as one of Britain’s most significant contemporary artists via an oeuvre that spans photography, sculpture, installation and collage.

Using humour, visual puns and sexual metaphors, Lucas explores sex, death, gender, Englishness. She is best known for using everyday objects including food, furniture, toilets and cigarette to depict the absurdity and vulnerability of the human body.
