Festoon 9

Chris Kettle released Festoon 9 at the Modern Masters show in July 2018. Inspired by the old masters but far from traditional, Chris Kettle is fine artist who paints obscure objects in odd arrangements to create what he calls a ‘New Still Life’.
The inanimate objects he paints are charged with emotion as they are captured with strokes of light and dark to create drama and depth in a mysterious world of their own.
‘Festoon 9’ is an original oil on linen painting by Chris Kettle from his Festoon series. For this set of paintings, he carefully selected exotic fruit before taking hundreds of photographs with different lighting until he had enough to work from. He then began crafting the moody arrangement using oil on raw linen. A process he recently rediscovered along with using different broader, angled brushes for a more dynamic effect.
A unique and modern spin on classic still life, Festoon 9 is a truly electrifying artwork that will add drama to any room.

    About the artist
    +

Inspired by the old masters, but far from traditional, fine artist Chris Kettle has developed what he calls ‘New Still Life’: painting familiar objects in unexpected arrangements, these works are a true visual embodiment of the uncanny.

Kettle’s inanimate subject matter is charged with emotion, each composition captured in dynamic contrasts of light and dark to create drama and depth. With their thick brush strokes and saturated colours, these scenes of still life seem to inhabit a mysterious realm of their own.

Kettle’s ‘Terrarium’ was one of only three award winners of the UK’s National Open Art Competition in 2011, judged by Gavin Turk. His painting ‘Hubris’ was also chosen for the accompanying NOAC exhibition in the same year. Kettle lives and works in Brighton and continues to exhibit around the world.
