Meteor VI

This piece is one of nine prints created for Marc Quinn’s Meteor Series – a collection of pigment prints of orchids. The series is an example of Quinn’s ongoing captivation with horticulture, combined with a touch of the darker aesthetic we’ve come to expect from the prominent YBA.

Meteor VI depicts a large orchid in negative tones. The result is black, almost monstrous, petals and areas of shadow that have taken on a ghostly quality that reflects Quinn’s interest in the more sinister side of nature. The darker petals are complemented by pops of electric yellow and saturated oranges and pinks.

The print is part of a limited edition of 250, signed by the artist.

Box framing is provided with all our online framing, creating a distance between the glass and your artwork, so no risk of ink transfer to the pane. it's the perfect, gallery grade choice for limited edition prints or original artworks.

Shadow float mounting is an option at our website, to give the appearance of an artwork floating within the frame. The mount – an archival foam core – creates depth too, by casting a shadow beneath the artwork. We highly recommend using a float mount when framing artwork with deckled (hand-torn) edges.

As always, all our materials are sustainable and archival to keep your artwork in mint condition and perfectly presented. Simply choose from our white or black float framing options, before adding to basket.

Glazing all our framing orders are shipped with glass. We take great care with packaging to protect your artwork.

    About the artist
    +

One of the leading artists of his generation, Marc Quinn graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in History and History of Art before switching track to contemporary visual art in the 1990s.

Working across sculpture, painting, and drawing, Quinn incorporates a broad range of materials through both traditional and modern techniques. With his critical background, Quinn suffuses every work with a sense of the profound, tackling questions of the human condition through a contemplation of science and astrology.

Well-known artworks include the sculpture of the artist’s head, cast from his own frozen blood, and his depiction of the artist Alison Lapper on Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth in 2005. In 2001, Quinn also won The Royal Academy of Art’s Charles Wollaston Award for Catherine Long, a sculptural nude in white marble.
