Projeto Nightclub - Propeller

This piece from Brazilian artist Leda Catunda, is from her 2014 Projecto Nightclub collection – a series of eight polymer-gravure block prints, so vibrant and alive, they reminded the artist of a nightclub.

Through her art, Catunda probes the boundaries between painting and object, creating large-scale works that incorporate textiles and often resemble organic structures and organisms. The artist paints over soft fabrics to create the unusual patterns and textures that characterise her work.

This print is from a limited edition of 10, signed by the artist.

About the artist
+

Leda Catunda is a Brazilian painter, sculptor, graphic artist and educator, who has spent over 30 years producing work that comments on popular culture, consumerism, taste and the idea of belonging.

Catunda sources appropriated objects and images to use as the raw inspiration for her pieces. And, when painting, she explores the limits of textures and materials, either by using different fabrics to paint with or by creating ‘soft paintings’ by painting over materials including towels, bedclothes and leather.
