We Do Things Differently Here

We Do Things Differently Here is the final edition and sister to This is the Place and It all Comes from Here, with the vision of them complementing and sitting alongside one another.

The three artworks are bonded not only through the humble bee but through the continuation of circles, symmetry, and the regal, multifaceted, gold backgrounds.

Notably, each piece in this trilogy is a token of appreciation to Waggett's hometown, Manchester, through the bee emblem - symbolising the city's hard-working past - and the use of well-known Manchester quotes and sayings, which reside in the hearts of all Mancunians. This final piece is also a tribute to a key component of Manchester, the LGBTQ community, which is represented through the use of rainbow gold foil, within the piece. This community is a pivotal component of Manchester's diverse and vibrant culture, making the city what it is today.

Using seven different gold foils, the piece comes alive in countless ways over the day and night. The gold catches and plays with the light, changing the mood over time for the viewer. Each piece is perfected, made with multiple colour overlay lithography, creating different depth and dimension with the bee.

"All of these pieces are nods to my hometown of Manchester, I feel constantly compelled to capture the spirit of Manchester that resides in me; what it means to be from there and express that through my art."

"We do things differently here'. Lithograph on Museum paper with seven colour gold foil embossing, printed onto 100% Archival Paper. Signed by Elizabeth Waggett. Numbered edition of 125.

Please note different monitors and screens may change the colour tones you are viewing, we have provided different angles in different lights so you can get a good representation of how the gold foil changes in the light.

    About the artist
    +

Elizabeth Waggett is a British contemporary artist known for elegant portrayals of animals, skulls and personal trinkets. Her intricate work explores the beauty of nature, the fragility of life, and the profound relationship between value and purpose in consumer-driven society.

Employing incredible skill and fine art techniques, Waggett depicts her photorealistic subjects in stripped-back monochrome, embellished with shimmering precious metals. Her work represents the inner struggle to balance materialism and meaning, with each piece a social commentary designed to challenge the viewer to confront the impact of mining the world for precious natural resources.

Waggett’s artworks have been exhibited around the world via solo shows in NYC, L.A, Abu Dhabi, and Manchester, and at art fairs in Basel, Miami, New York, London, Hong Kong, Zurich, Brussels, Houston, and Paris. Waggett was commissioned by HRH The Prince of Wales in collaboration with the Prince’s Trust 50th Anniversary and has worked for luxury brands including Saks, Soho House, and SLS Hotels.
