On Sunday 2nd June, we brought our annual Art Yard Sale back to the people of Brighton for the final day of Brighton Fringe. Thankfully, the sun shone on Jubilee Square for our market-style event featuring Enter Gallery’s most exciting contemporary British artists.
By the time the sale opened, there was already a crowd of art lovers ready to pounce. Whether they were after paintings for hallways, art for bedrooms or perfect gallery wall prints, it was wonderful to see so many happy people meeting our artists and snapping up art at bargain prices.
We had a fantastic time and are already counting down the days until we can do it again. In today’s blog, we’re revealing some highlights from the day…
New Artists
Our 2024 Art Yard Sale was a contemporary artist extravaganza, with 30 artists manning their own market stalls, stocked high with rare, original and limited edition art prints.
This year, we were delighted to welcome several first-timers. London-based artists, Cassandra Yap, Caroline Chinakwe and Babak Ganjei joined the event. Yap’s stall was packed high with her popular range of playing cards and butterflies, and Chinakwe brought beautiful acrylic works and furniture. Ganjei had a fun selection of artworks, ranging from original small prints to greetings cards, baseball caps and badges.
Vintage Shuffle aka Diane Hampstead was another new addition to the Art Yard Sale with a wonderful stall offering original 3D collages and a limited edition print of her three EAT, SLEEP, RAVE sold-out artworks made from Fatboy Slim’s festival wristbands. Diane brought a fairground-vibe to the occasion via Hook the Duck and Wheel of Fortune games giving people the chance to win arty prizes.
Andrew Millar also joined us for the first time in 2024. Helping him on his stall was Vaughn from Tin Dogs Print Studio, who was live screenprinting to demonstrate how Millar’s intricate prints are made.
Giveaways and Demonstrations
Our Art Yard Sale regulars were also on hand with fun ideas for their stalls. Benjamin Thomas Taylor brought back his trusty tombola, offering discounts and free prints to those with a lucky ticket, and RYCA was giving away free limited edition prints with every purchase.
Being a creative bunch, many of our artists also offered fun added extras on their stalls to entice in the punters. Kate Jenkins was serving up her sewn sardines and seafood from a trolley cart, and Richard Berner was doing live illustrations for those buying his loveable Champ cut-outs.
Our Art Yard Sale will be returning in 2025, but you don’t have to wait until then to enjoy similar bargains and rare artworks. In October, we’re bringing you our Art Yard Sale ONLINE.Sign up to our newsletter to hear about our events.
