This weekend, Enter Gallery hosted the latest of our Saturday morning Kids Clubs.
This welcoming community event is a wonderful opportunity for you to introduce your children to art, and to grant them unique access to the artistic teachings of some of the UK’s leading contemporary artists.
The gallery was alive with creative energy as 20 kids gathered together to lap up the artistic know-how of Arron Crascall – an artist known for abstract artworks depicting pop culture icons alongside splashes of colour and text.
Here’s a run-down of how it went…
An emotional outlet
Just a couple of months after Since 16, Arron Crascall’s sell-out solo show at Enter Gallery, Crascall was back in the gallery to host September’s Kids Club.
The aim of the morning was to show the children how art can be used as a healthy medium to express emotion and any thoughts that buzz around in our heads.
Speaking about how he uses his art as an emotional outlet, Crascall divulged that: ‘It tames the beast. I’ve done paintings where I’ve been crying, paintings where I’ve been out of breath, paintings where I’ve been up until 4 in the morning not realising the time because I’m so wrapped up in it. It comes in big waves and its pretty crazy really.”
Emulating his own artistic style, Crascall encouraged the children to write down what they were thinking and feeling. Next, the kids were instructed to cover those thoughts and feelings with colourful splashes and layers of paint.
It was heartening to watch how Arron’s enthusiastic support of the children gave them the confidence to be open about their feelings, and to express themselves with the colours and patterns that suited them best.
