As we speak, Enter Gallery is in the midst of popping up in Canary Wharf, bringing the unique curation of our beloved Brighton gallery to the people of the city.
Luckily for us, our jaunt to London coincides with the reopening of Yinka Ilori’s basketball court – a wonderful example of the public art found around the Canary Wharf Estate.
To celebrate the reopening, which is being hosted by the London Lions Basketball, we’re showcasing works by Yinka Ilori at the Canary Wharf Pop-Up, alongside other pieces that celebrate the game and the culture that surrounds it.
In today’s blog, we’re revealing more about Ilori’s mesmerising work of art, and revealing some of the pieces you can expect to see at the Pop-Up.
Public Positivity
YInka Ilori’s Be The Best You Can Be basketball court on Canary Wharf’s Bank Street Park was originally opened in 2021, and was designed as a place for people to come together and enjoy themselves after a particularly tricky couple of years.
Featuring a 3D printed court and inspiring typography urging players to, as the title suggests, ‘be the best you can be’, the colourful installation aimed to inspire visitors by instilling a sense of optimism and hope.
While Canary Wharf is hardly an area that you’d associate with art (Fun fact: Enter Gallery’s Pop-Up is the first art gallery to open in the area!), Ilori’s court is actually part of a wonderful public art programme led by the Canary Wharf Estate that features over 75 permanent works by 50 world-renowned artists and craftspeople.
