Mark Vessey launches new artwork celebrating London club, fabric

Last night, Brighton photographer Mark Vessey launched the latest artwork from his celebrated Collections series at legendary London nightclub, fabric.

Vessey’s new artwork has been created to honour the 25th anniversary of the iconic club. The piece captures fabric’s incredible history via mix compilation CDs created since the club opened its doors back in 1999.

The evening was a wonderful opportunity for Enter Gallery collectors to attend an exclusive event and to mingle with the DJs and music industry professionals who have been instrumental in the nightclub’s 25-year history.

Today, we’re sharing some snaps from the launch, and providing details of how to secure your copy of Vessey’s fantastic new piece.

A London Institution

When it comes to London nightclubs, it doesn’t get much more iconic than fabric. The Farringdon institution hosts the world’s best techno, house and drum and bass DJs, and remains an absolute career highlight for all who get to play within its hallowed halls.

Despite being one of hundreds of nightclubs in the capital, fabric holds a special place in the hearts of hedonists for maintaining one of the most innovative music policies in the club world.

Vessey’s artwork is made all the more poignant by the fact that back in 2016, it didn’t look like the club was going to make it. Fortunately, closure threats were defeated by public outcry and nowadays it remains a landmark of the global clubbing scene. Speaking of Vessey’s new release, fabric co-founder, Cameron Leslie told us:

fabric has always been about culture, music culture, club culture, youth culture and art. The venue has always strived to be as forward thinking and innovative on all levels, not just its music offering. The artwork for our flyers across 25 years has always been progressive as to the artwork for our mix series. Its makes sense that the physical CD compilations of fabric are documented and celebrated. We are thrilled to work with UK artist Mark Vessey, who has immortalised the collection for all to see”.

Mix-Tapes

For the piece, Vessey has brought together the mix tapes that have captured the hearts of the nightclub’s loyal global fanbase.

The artwork features compilations from the biggest stars of the scene, including the likes of LTJ Bukem, Four Tet, Goldie, David Rodigan, Scratch Perverts and Rob da Bank.

This new print is the perfect addition to Vessey’s enormously-popular Collections series, in which he commemorates 20th and 21st century popular culture via era-defining vinyl, books and magazines.

This artwork follows Vessey’s previous releases hosted at Enter Gallery, capturing the record collections of legendary DJs, Carl Cox, Simon Dunmore of Defected Records, and Fatboy Slim. Speaking of his new release, Vessey states:

Being able to document the physical mix series for such a world renowned club and label is an honour. I hope to distil the impact of their physical release series within my art, so it can be on display in the club for future generations of clubbers to see”.
