All you dance music fans better clear your diaries because on Thursday May 25th the biggest party in Brighton is happening at Enter Gallery.
We will be launching Simon, the latest release from Brighton photographer, Mark Vessey. The piece captures the music collection of Simon Dunmore - legendary DJ and Founder of house music institutions, Defected Records and Glitterbox.
Fresh from his keynote speech at Brighton Music Conference, Dunmore will be taking over Enter Gallery to host the ultimate after party. Dunmore will be in attendance alongside Vessey, spinning records and chatting with music lovers.
Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting event, and how you can secure your spot.
Simon is the latest release from Vessey’s enormously-popular Collections series, in which he captures collections of everything from records and books, to perfume and booze bottles.
Having created Collections works showcasing everything from Bowie tracks to Funk ‘n’ Soul and Glastonbury headliners, Vessey has earned himself a reputation as a masterful documenter of popular culture.
This new artwork marks the second time Vessey has immortalised the collection of a musical icon, following his critically-acclaimed Norman piece, which captured Fatboy Slim’s favourite tracks.
In this print, Vessey distils 40 years of Dunmore’s musical influences into 88 records ranging from R&B, soul, funk, disco, Jazz, Seminal House, Mod and 80s Electronica. Look closely and you’ll see that the piece depicts iconic tracks from the likes of Gil Scott Heron, Chaka Khan, Talking Heads, Arrested Development and Bobby Womack.
Simon will be available in various sizes, including the 'mother piece', which will be on display at Enter Gallery for the first time on the 25th.
In The House
Throughout his eclectic career, Dunmore has earned himself a reputation as someone who lives and breathes house music. Since starting Defected Records in 1999, and building the business from an independent start-up to an influential global force, Dunmore has signed and developed some of the biggest names in the industry from Roger Sanchez and Kings of Tomorrow, to Bob Sinclair.
Dunmore also created Glitterbox – a polysexual and maximum glamour clubbing brand and record label, that is trailblazing high energy disco events across the world.
