In The Shakespeare Tobacco Company, Rose continues to explore the fascination with nostalgic 20th century cigarette branding that we saw in her previous sold out shows, I Quit Last Week and Too Much of A Good Thing.
In today’s blog, we’re revealing everything you need to know about Rose’s upcoming show, and providing a sneak peek at a couple of the artworks included.
The Shakespeare Tobacco Company
The Shakespeare Tobacco Company is a graphic exploration of literature, in which Rose addresses the same timeless themes of mortality, desire and fate that so captivated William Shakespeare.
By combining iconic cigarette branding with imagery that evokes classics such as Macbeth and Hamlet, Rose compares Shakespearean tragedy with the conflicts that arise between cigarette company and loyal consumer.
Each piece in the collection is intended to spark reflections on the Machiavellian branding tactics cigarette companies use to engage consumers, enticing them with an unobtainable fantasy lifestyle, in the name of selling them something that will slowly kill them.
The show features a selection of artworks, including limited edition prints, sculptures, and vibrant large-scale original acrylic and oil paintings on wooden panel and canvas.

Since starting her artistic career just three short years ago, Rose’s work has taken the art world by storm, catching the eye of numerous high-profile collectors, including Phoebe Waller Bridge, Yungblud, and Bimini Bon Boulash, and leading to collaborations with the likes of Gucci, Jo Malone and Coach.
