A member of the YBAs (Young British Artists) Ian Davenport was instrumental in changing the face of contemporary art in the 1990s. Known for its openness to materials and an attention to process, Davenport’s bold and abstract aesthetic helped define a generation. Today, he continues to produce convention-defying artworks in response to contemporary culture.
Davenport’s recent work adopts a dynamic painting technique, applying lashings of household paint by pouring, dripping and splattering pigment onto the canvas. In their dramatic bursts of glossy colour, these works capture a sense of movement and immediacy, for an aesthetic that demands attention.
