Vicky Steane is a mixed-media artist, children’s book illustrator and cartographer who creates murals, maps and visual stories, most notably her recreation of London crafted entirely from more than 5,000 travelcards.
Steane has written and illustrated a series of children’s books called Little Robot Stories. She attributes the keen eye for detail and precision showcased in her Travel Card Map, to her background as a framer for the National Portrait Gallery, The Tate and Getty Images.
Steane creates her art in her studio on London’s Eel Pie Island, former hippie commune and hangout of rock royalty including David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.
