David Spiller is known for graphic depictions of beloved cartoon characters. He employs a blend of Pop Art sensibilities, Art Brut techniques, doodles and scribbled phrases to convey hopeful messages musing on the wonder of love.
This piece is from a group of 10 works created by Spiller towards the end of his life. He spent his last working days surrounded by his beloved cartoon characters, creating pieces designed to sit side-by-side, which included his favourite mantras, ‘I love you’ and ‘Stay forever young’.
I’ll See You In My Dreams is from a pair of prints, depicting two of popular culture's most famous lovers. The pair gaze at one another, as if in conversation, their faces surrounded by sweet nothings and lyrics from love songs.
This 35-colour silkscreen print on Somerset Satin has hand-torn edges. From a limited edition of 95, the piece is embossed by Spiller’s estate, signed by his wife Moira and son Xavier, and comes with a full certificate of authenticity.
