The Enter Gallery team love nothing more than opening our doors and welcoming art lovers into the gallery to view beautiful pieces over a drink or two. While 2021 remained a difficult year for all, we were fortunate enough to be able to bring you a host of exclusive online and in-person events.
In today’s blog, we’re rounding up our 2021 shows, so you can see what you missed, and get a feel for the types of events you can look forward to in 2022. Without further ado…
JANUARY
Rare print show
With restrictions still in place, our first show of the year was held online. For our Rare Print Show we bring you exceptional finds from some of the UK's leading artists. In 2021, the show included pieces from Harland Miller, David Shrigley, Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst.
For those who missed out, fear not - we are hosting another Rare Print Show in January 2022. Book your tickets here
APRIL
Chasing the Sun
Chasing the Sun was our first in-person event of the year, and we were beyond delighted to be back. For the show, we asked our artists to submit an artwork based on the theme, ‘Chasing the Sun’ – and they delivered, providing works inspired by faraway lands, the wonder of nature, and dreams of a brighter future. The show featured exclusive pieces from the likes of Damien Hirst, Peter Blake, Maser and Dirty Hans.
JULY
Dave White Private View
It was a swanky affair at the Dave White private view back in July, with guests enjoying a preview of White’s stunning hummingbird collection over a glass of locally-produced (and award-winning) Fitz sparkling wine. Fans and collectors of the artist filled the gallery to snap up his latest works, including his blue hummingbird. The piece was available exclusively at Enter Gallery as either an original, or as a limited edition print available in two different sizes.
AUGUST
Build and Destroy - Aroe
With DJ Format on the decks, and the Crime Pays – McLaren 570s Vorsteiner parked up outside the gallery, Bond Street was alive with people celebrating Brighton graffiti legend, Aroe’s show in August. The summer event was named Build and Destroy as a nod to the impermanent nature of graffiti. It featured five original pieces created using spray paint and ultra-black paint, a series of five limited edition prints, and five 3D sculptures of Uzi machine guns emblazoned with the ironic statement, ‘Crime Pays.’
SEPTEMBER
Little Smiling Dots: The RYCA Showcase
Back in September we raved it up at RYCA’s Little Smiling Dots showcase – his latest acid smiley inspired collection. The show featured a large selection of work from the artist that included toys, sculptures, limited edition prints and originals. One such original was Right Here, Right Now, created to honour Fatboy Slim, and was signed by the legendary DJ, as well as RYCA. On the night, the perfect soundtrack was provided by a live DJ spinning old school classics.
OCTOBER
Tomorrow’s Parties - Bonnie and Clyde
October was a busy month at the gallery, with a number of exciting events of different formats. First up, we hosted the launch of Tomorrow’s Parties – an exclusive limited edition boxset of six prints, and a handful of original pieces by Brighton artist, Bonnie and Clyde. The show attracted quite the crowd, everyone no doubt there for the artist’s unique brand of pure escapism via her distinctive otherworldly vistas.
Live printing with Manuel Skirl
We love seeing artists in the midst of creation. So, for something a little different, we welcomed internationally-renowned street artist, Manuel Skirl to the gallery for a live printing session. Skirl jetted in from Vienna to show off his unique hand-cut roller technique, creating original works of the mesmerising black and blue lines he’s painted everywhere from Palestine to Russia. Attendees were able to watch Skirl at work, and buy the original pieces he created.
Art Yard Sale Private View
Those who’ve been frequenting Enter Gallery for some time now will know that each year we host our Art Yard Sale. Ordinarily, this takes place during Brighton Fringe, and sees artists manning their own market stalls in Jubilee Square. The sociable community event allows you to meet your favourite artists, and buy rare pieces and artworks created specifically for the sale, directly from them. All being well, the Art Yard Sale will be back in June 2022. Watch this space!
This year, the sale took place online and in the gallery. To celebrate, we hosted a private view of the pieces created specifically for the sale. We had exclusive works from over 20 artists, including Magnus Gjoen, Sara Pope, Joe Webb and Charlie Haydn Taylor, all available for discounted prices over the 72-hour period of the sale weekend.
NOVEMBER
Tell Your Friends You Love Them – Euan Roberts
In November, the gallery was full to bursting with good vibes courtesy of Hastings-based artist, Euan Roberts. For the showcase, Roberts produced 12 uplifting original pieces and one limited edition print in four colourways. The show was an extension of Roberts’ unique visual language, which pairs cheerful characters with phrases from the modern vernacular surrounding mental health. Via titles like Alone But Not Lonely, and Kindness is a Superpower, Euan’s work is an encouraging reminder to remain optimistic.
That concludes our round-up of 2021. We’ve got plenty of exciting events scheduled for next year. If you’d like to receive information about art shows that are coming to Enter Gallery in 2022, sign up to our newsletter here.
